3 and 0...

Yellowjackets win game 3! Only undefeated team in their league so far.

Final score 31-13.
Payton going for a long touchdown run.

He managed to get out of a few sticky situations as quarterback. The other team knew what they were up against, so they rushed him every play. Good thing that boy can scramble!

Go Payton!

Down, Set, Hut
It was another great game! Payton's side didn't get to spend more than a few minutes on offense the entire first half, but he made the most of that time. We have such fast, powerful runners on both sides. It's so exciting to watch!
Go Yellowjackets!

This Little Lady Is So Smart...

She's got a big ole' brain just like her daddy! She now knows her shapes (circle, triangle, square, etc). Also... if I write down all four of our names in random order:

Elyse
Mommy
Payton
Daddy

She can read them to me. I'll mix them up and point them out in different orders, and she still gets it right every time.

The best part is...

Not only is she smart...she also has great fashion sense. And that one she gets from her Mama.

Touchdown...

Payton's football team played in their second game on Saturday. They won 45-6. Another victory! Woohoo! Go Yellowjackets!

Payton ran in 3 touchdowns and had one beautiful pass for another TD.
He also got an interception on defense.

Way to go Payton! We are so proud of you!

Aha...

Every week in my classroom we have a "mystery reader." A parent, or a person in the community who comes by our room to read a story to us. All week I give the kids clues and they try to guess who it might be.

Monday's clue: I drive a white car.

The kids aren't sure. Could be anyone. They list some parents, neighbors, babysitters, friends, teachers. There are lots of candidates for who it could possibly be, but they're really not sure.

Tuesday's clue: I have one sister.

Narrows it down a little. Now they suspect 3 moms, and our principal (who by the way does not drive a white car, but oh well, they think it would be exciting).

Wednesday's clue: I have brown hair and brown eyes.

The room is silent as they think about it. Trying to put all 3 clues together. Narrowing it down, removing people from the list. The principal is no longer an option since her hair is red. It's so quiet as the kids concentrate and run a list of people through their little brains. You could hear a pin drop.

Suddenly....

"Aha...I know who it is!" As the student raises himself out of his seat. Finger pointed in the air. A look of certainty on his face.

"Who????" All the other kids ask in amazement. You can tell they're all impressed that he's figured it out based on the clues.

"Barack Obama!" Cheers ring throughout the room. High fives are exchanged.

Uuuummmm...I'm afraid the kids may be a wee bit disappointed on Friday afternoon...

Picture of the Week...

Touchdown!

Mama Time...

Today I'm participating in Mama Kat's writing workshop. The topic I selected is:

If You Give a Mom a Moment...

She might kick her feet up, relax, and enjoy a good book.

She might pamper herself for a bit before returning home to care for others.
She might even buy a new dress, or jeans, or purse, or shoes.... heck, maybe she'll even buy them all! After all, she deserves them! :)

Season Opener...

Yesterday Payton's team, The Yellowjackets, played their first game. Payton is playing at quarterback, free safety, kick returner and punt returner this season.

As you can see they came out strong and won their first game! Go Yellowjackets!
Payton and Kennedy - All Stars!

Elyse getting tickled during the game. She's wearing her yellow to support her Bubby!

Playing defense. He had one interception that he ran back for about 4o yards.

#5

Enjoying the game.... thanks to a cool drink that kept her occupied for the entire first half.

Half-time. Gosh, he looks grown up!

Calling the plays in the huddle.

Leading the team to a big win! He had 2 touchdown runs and also scored an extra point.

All of the boys played so well. I was really proud of how well they worked together and pushed hard the whole game. We're looking forward to a great season. Go Yellowjackets!

Woo Pig Sooie...

Tuesday night was our monthly Bunco night. Gosh, I feel like that makes me sound really old for some reason. Hhhmmm...maybe because I'm approaching the big 3-0 soon. Anyways, Marcy hosted at her house and the theme was Razorbacks. Go Hogs!

Here are some pictures from our evening...

Poky Hair...

We already know that Elyse is not a fan of her daddy having a scruffy face. Well, apparently she's no longer a fan of his spiky hair either.

Yesterday she was laying in bed cuddling with him when she said, "Poky hair, daddy. Cut it!"

That girlie loves her daddy!

This weekend while Ryan and I were doing some yard work, Elyse was busy creating a masterpiece in the driveway...

Weekend Wrap-Up...

We had a great Labor Day weekend and really enjoyed having the extra day off of work! It was sooo nice to spend an extra day getting things done around the house and relaxing with the fam.

The weekend started off with a bang as I met up with a group of teachers at US Pizza for dinner and laughs. We headed down to Qdoba to watch the amazing Tanika compete in the burrito eating contest...

She's little...but that girl can EAT! She ate two GIANT burritos in 5 minutes and made it to the finals in two weeks. Just imagine...winning all the burritos you want for a whole year.
Here's Haley learning how to juggle from some random guy on Dickson Street. She actually did it a few times. Very talented.

I got home Friday night and went to bed....was sleeping peacefully. Listening to the sound of the rain on the roof. The THUNDER! Oh crud, that thunder was LOUD! SO. LOUD. When all of a sudden our fire alarm goes off. Ryan and I jump out of bed, run to the kid's rooms, get them out of bed and run to the garage.

"Did you smell smoke?"

"No, did you?"

"No. Maybe we should go check."

Ryan goes back in and soon comes back shaking his head. He pulls down the ladder to the attic, climbs up and checks there. No fire. No smoke. We troop back inside and try to get everyone settled back into bed so that we can get a few more hours of sleep.

The next day we found out the lightning struck behind our house. Our neighbors totally lost power and a lot of their circuits and appliances were totally shot. We lost power in Payton's room (restored by flipping the breaker), lost Internet service for a day until they could come replace the fried lines outside, and had to replace our refrigerator which went kaput.

What was the deal with all the fire alarms this week? Evacuating school into the pouring rain with 600+ kids on Wednesday and then evacuating our house into the pouring rain with two very sleepy kids on Friday. Hopefully, we won't be hearing any more alarms for a looong time. Seriously!

Saturday morning I rolled out of bed (still so sleepy...) and met Tamara, Becky, Sara and Jennie for a 6 mile run. We started at Tamara's house and ran to my house and back. It was a good run and we were feeling ready for the 10k on Monday. Later that morning we all made brunch (eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit) and boy was it good! Yummmm! Then Payton went over to his BFF's, Spencer, for an afternoon of playing and to watch the Hog game.

That night we all met up again to watch the first Razorback game of football season. We started out at Tamara's house but when Cox was having issues getting the game on TV, we quickly packed everything up and headed to our house to watch it on Dish. Of course, as soon as we got here and purchased the game for the second time, we heard that it was working on Cox. Of course.

Elyse enjoyed having Addye, Kynzie, and Hayven over to play with during the game. Addye played doctor and gave everyone check-ups. Maybe she'll follow in her daddy's footsteps. :)

Ryan, Lorenzo, and Drew watching the game.

Me and Tamara. Go Hogs!

Jennie and Becky. Wooo pig sooie!
Sunday morning we got up and ventured to Lowe's to find a new refrigerator since ours was on the fritz. We also got lots of paint samples since our living room wall was damaged last month during the hail storm. When we have it repaired this week, we decided we might as well have it painted at the same time. So we picked out a new color for the living room, hallways, and entry way and also a new color for the kitchen. I'll post some pictures after it's all done!
The rest of the day we just kind of relaxed and did some laundry, cleaning, and other things around the house. That night we rented Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Very cute!
Monday morning I got up bright and early and went up to Bentonville with Tamara for the Run For a Child 10k. We met up with Amy, Jake and Jody. The weather was nice and cool (and foggy) and the course was very pretty. There were quite a few hills, especially the first few miles, but there were some good, long downhill stretches too. I ended up finishing in 57 min. That's about a 9.20 pace. Ugh. I was kind of disappointed, but oh well. It's a new PR for me (since it's the only 10k I've ever run). :)
Overall, the weekend was great. I was awful about taking pictures but we all still had a lot of fun anyway!

A DuggEr Meets the DuggArs...

This morning I ran in the Run For A Child 10k in Bentonville. As soon as Tamara and I parked and walked to the registration/starting area I heard an announcement over the loud speaker...

"The Duggar family is here volunteering today. Let's give a special hello to the Duggars!"

I immediately started waving to all my fans. Oh. Wait. Not me. THE DuggAr family. 19 kids + 1 on the way. That Duggar family. Of the TLC show fame.

Tamara immediately starting jumping up and down in excitement. "I am their #1 fan! We have to go find them and say hello. Maybe we can get on TV" she declared. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a tiny bit, but she was really excited to see them.

We see them several times before the race walking around with their camera crew and sound guys following behind them. I tried to avoid the cameras as Tamara tried to jump in front of them every chance she got. :) At the end of the race they were standing at the finish line passing out water bottles. Again I tried to avoid the camera. I was hot. Sweaty. Tired. Hyperventilating. And Bright Red. Not ready to be on TV.

I know. I know. I would fit right in with them. Wouldn't even have to change my name. I'd just need to grow my hair out and purchase some long skirts. It'd be perfect. Tamara could come visit me at their house (her dream come true). I could help care for the new baby. Nah.

After the race we were walking around getting all the free goodies when Michelle Duggar walked right by us. Of course, we had to take this opportunity to talk with her...

Tamara: I'm your number one fan. I watch every single episode. I just watched your DC episode. And so on and so on. (or something to that effect)

Me: My last name is Dugger too. Except it's Er. And thanks to you I get asked constantly if I am one of THE DuggArs. (or something like that)

Really, she was very nice and sweet. The kids seemed so well behaved. I'm sure they're a perfectly nice family. I'm just sayin'...
