As most of you know, Payton is the athlete of the family. He plays football, basketball, and runs track. This weekend we traveled to Little Rock with his AAU Basketball team for their state tournament, however; things didn’t go according to plan.
Payton had an asthma attack shortly into the first game. This scared me to death because he hasn’t had any problems with his asthma in several years. The doctors had said he’d outgrown it and we didn’t even have an inhaler anymore. So…off we went to the hospital where they did a chest x-ray, examined him, and gave him an inhaler. He basically just cheered on his team this weekend since he was unable to play. This was hard for him because he loves to be in the middle of the game making big plays!
Yesterday I took him to his pediatrician to have him checked out and they did some breathing tests to measure how much air he was able to take in…the results showed that his airways were about 50% inflamed, so he had really been struggling to breathe.
Now we’re going to take it easy for a while as he adjusts to the steroids and inhaler they gave him. Hopefully these will take care of it so that he’ll be able to get back to the activities he loves so much.
Elyse was a trooper throughout the whole weekend. She spent hours and hours in the gym…and hours waiting at the ER… Poor thing! But she handled it well.
Now we just need both of the kiddos to stay healthy for a little bit…
